Reviews
“The play has some great tech to assist with the overall feeling. Scott Penner’s set is simple allowing us to go from scene to scene with no wasted time. The projections (Anthony Churchill and Mike Tutaj) is amazing, the original music ( Joshua Schmidt) and the lighting ( Lee Fiskness) perfect. Nicole Boylan’s costumes and Cassy Schillo’s props worked just right and the violence choreography by Rick Sordelet appeared real. I know that I was glued to every move by every player from start to finish and the surprises all caught me off guard.” Alan Bresloff- Around the Town Chicago
“As Robert and Sophie flee the authorities, their chase takes them across Paris, and then to Versailles, London and just outside Edinburgh, Scotland. These locale changes are accomplished on stage within Scott Penner’s sparse, but effective Scenic Design and by some detailed and nicely-animated Projections co-Designed by Mike Tutaj and Anthony Churchill. The production is filled with an artsy blend of moody shadow and Light, courtesy of illumination master, Lee Fiskness. And Joshua Schmidt’s Original Music and Sound Design provides a subtle but appropriate tonal background for the story.“ Colin Douglas- Chicago Theatre Review
Before I saw the show, I wondered how they would deal with all the locations –the Louvre and the Church of Églies Saint-Sulpice in Paris, Westminster Abbey and Temple Church in London, Rosslyn Chapel in Edinburgh, an airplane, and more. They solve that problem brilliantly using clever staging, hazy lighting into dark shadows, awesome special effects and spooky music. Kudos to Scenic Designer Scott Penner, Lighting Designer Lee Fiskness, Co-Video and Projection Designers Anthony Churchill and Mike Tutaj, and Original Music & Sound Designers Joshua Schmidt.
